Usually it is called vegetation. And the purpose should be always. It operates everything that we do, it surrounds us everywhere where only it is possible, it defines our behavior. And if there will be no Purpose, what for pity existence we should drag? We will simply cease to exist as a class of the reasonable. But on the other hand, having reached one purpose, always there is a certain nervous trembling that new, more ambitious or at least standing purpose won't find. Though the need of the person for the purpose throughout life is so strong that usually it is not necessary to worry that having reached one, won't find another. But better worries that you will not find other purpose, than to live always without the purpose.
